5 ways to celebrate EID during the (COVID-19)

Eid-ul- Fitri is the period that marks the end of Ramadan. Unfortunately, this year’s EID celebration will also take place as the world deals with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data from published epidemiology and virologic studies provide evidence that COVID-19 is primarily transmitted from symptomatic people to others who are in close contact through respiratory droplets, by direct contact with infected persons, or by contact with contaminated objects and surfaces.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has instructed that people should maintain social distancing at all times for their own safety and the safety of others.

To prevent further spreading of the coronavirus around the globe, families are figuring out ways to celebrate the EID FITRI but apart this year.

Below are suggested ideas to help you enjoy the EID while staying safe

  1. Prepare traditional foods

Whether your family celebrates with jollof rice, local foods, food is often a central part of holiday festivities. And it’s a tradition that you can easily participate in from your home! Look up recipes for your EID celebrations foods and spend some quality time in the kitchen with your family.

  1. Virtual family gathering on EID DAY

Holidays are a great reason to get together with family and friends. This year, move your EID celebrations from offline to online and have a gathering with the use of great apps for one-on-one video calls which are compatible for IOS OR ANDROID USERS

  •   WhatsApp
  •  Skype (Web / iPhone / Android)
  •   FaceTime on Apple iPhones
  • Facebook Messenger ((Web / iPhone / Android)
  1. Reach Out to Your Elderly Relatives and Neighbors

The EID celebrations can be a hard time to be away from family. During the coronavirus outbreak, the elderly population is at higher at-risk and therefore has to practice social distancing from even those closest to them. Make sure they feel loved on Easter (and every day) by connecting with them via text, call, FaceTime or Zoom.

  1. Have a virtual EID fun

Ask family and friends to dress up in their EID outfits and take photos. Then, send the photos via email or text message, WhatsApp to share the fun with each other.

  1. Watch Movies & Play games

Games are fun and quite interesting most especially with family when you have a gathering of 1 or 5 people.  Take your time to download different movies and games that will suit your purpose ranging from the adventure game, soccer, etc.

Let us not forget that the goal is to comply with social distancing guidelines by celebrating together but apart to prevent further spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19)

We are in this together  and it will surely pass
